We seek a middle school mathematics teacher for grades 6-8, with a focus on pre-algebra, though the ideal candidate will be able to teach a wide range of mathematics courses up through Algebra 2. This role involves providing academic instruction and social-emotional support to students in collaboration with our clinicians. Classrooms consist of no more than ten students, with some classes taught one-to-one or in dyads. Teachers receive mentorship, coaching, and support from clinicians and academic administrators, along with extensive professional development in working with twice-exceptional youth.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement high-quality, engaging mathematics lessons differentiated to meet students' learning needs.
• Regularly assess students and curriculum, adapting content and instruction as needed; communicate assessment results to parents.
• Implement the school’s philosophy of progressive and personalized education for twice-exceptional children.
• Collaborate with psychosocial teachers to integrate executive functioning into the academic curriculum.
• Map and evaluate curriculum, ensuring vertical alignment across K-12 mathematics.
• Develop and teach electives.
• Maintain an orderly and aesthetic learning environment that supports students' social, emotional, and executive functioning needs.
• Use Blackbaud and student portfolios to maintain accurate records of progress and achievement.
• Empower students to take charge of their learning through scaffolding, modeling, and high expectations.
• Collaborate with academic and psychosocial staff on cross-curricular, inquiry-based projects.
• Communicate with parents and guardians about academic and social-emotional progress.
• Adhere to the school’s professional code and policies.
• Utilize Google Suite for documentation and communication.
• Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and required events (e.g., open houses, Curriculum Night).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in special education, general education, mathematics education, or mathematics.
• Minimum one year of paid experience teaching mathematics or a related subject.
• Strong knowledge of and affinity for mathematics.
• Desire and ability to work with students with special needs.
• Ability to respond to and manage behavioral challenges.
• Lesson planning and differentiated instruction skills.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Understanding of middle school-aged children’s academic, social, and emotional development.
• Attention to detail, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
• Time management, multitasking, teamwork, and collaboration.
• Patience and flexibility.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least three years of experience as a middle school mathematics teacher.
• Master’s degree in mathematics education, special education, mathematics, or a related field.
• Special education training, including gifted education and twice-exceptional youth.
• Secondary Mathematics and/or Special Education teaching credential.
• Experience teaching twice-exceptional youth.

Work Environment

This role operates in a school setting across multiple floors of a building with elevator access. Occasional travel to the Lower School campus, approximately two blocks away, is required. The position involves continuous standing, walking, climbing stairs, and occasionally lifting items under 20 pounds. Typing is required, and reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position following the academic calendar (late August to late June). Hours are generally Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM, with occasional evening or weekend events (anticipate at least three per year). The school year includes approximately 33 days off for holidays and breaks, with midday Friday dismissals for planning and preparation.

Pay

Annual salary range: $64,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience and skills.
