Job Summary
The Middle School Language Arts Teacher is responsible for developing students’ skills in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking for grades 6–8. As a member of a Catholic school community, the teacher integrates faith, values, and Catholic teachings into instruction while fostering a supportive and respectful classroom environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Language Arts instruction aligned with state standards and diocesan guidelines
- Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, grammar, vocabulary, and writing (narrative, informational, and argumentative)
- Select and teach age-appropriate literature, including novels, short stories, poetry, and nonfiction
- Encourage critical thinking through discussion, writing assignments, and projects
- Absess student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Integrate Catholic values and teachings into lessons where appropriate
- Maintain a positive, structured classroom environment rooted in respect and responsibility
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in faculty meetings and school initiatives
- Support and participate in the faith life of the school (e.g., Mass, prayer services, retreats)
Job Requirements
- Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field; valid teaching certification (middle school or secondary ELA preferred); experience teaching or working with middle school students; strong knowledge of literacy instruction and writing development
- Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Education or Literacy; experience in Catholic education; practicing Catholic or willingness to support the mission and values of the Church; familiarity with differentiated instruction and classroom technology tools
