Middle School Football Coach

Reports to: Athletic Director and Administration. Stipend: $2,360.00.

About the Role

The middle school football coach implements the sports program in accordance with district, board, and OSAA policies. They work with other coaches and team staff, adhering to athletic oversight guidelines and rules of conduct established by the state and school district. The coach is responsible for conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques. The role fosters physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, an understanding of the pleasure of sports, and the principles of fair play in each athlete.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to the policies of the Board of Education, District building standard practices and guidelines, the OSAA, and the League.
• Attends all meetings scheduled by administration, athletic director, and league.
• Aids the athletic director in maintaining student eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
• Organizes and directs practice activities and exercises; develops game strategy.
• Assesses players' skills and provides proper active supervision during all scheduled activities, including games, practices, locker rooms, and transportation areas.
• Provides firm, fair, and consistent discipline; reports serious infractions of rules or other player-related issues to the athletic director as soon as possible.
• Models and promotes good sportsmanship and appropriate competitive attitude; recognizes good execution and works to strengthen weaknesses in a positive, respectful, and professional manner.
• Practices professional conduct during events and practices; exemplifies high standards of personal conduct and habits.
• Emphasizes the importance of academic achievement of student athletes.
• Completes an injury report within 24 hours after an athlete has been injured during practice or competitions.
• Fosters good school-community relations through positive communication with students, parents, community members, and the media.
• Publicizes the sport and encourages student participation through personal contact.
• Ensures the proper use, care, and management of facilities and equipment.
• Follows safe procedures during practices and scheduled events to prevent and provide care for injuries; applies knowledge of emergency first aid procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of current rules and regulations regarding the sport as presented by the OSAA-endorsed rule book.
• Keeps abreast of new coaching developments, innovative ideas, and techniques by attending clinics, workshops, and reading relevant materials.
• Ensures security of activity areas and building keys.
• Position requires reliable and dependable attendance.

Requirements

• Ability to organize and supervise students.
• Currently certified in first-aid/CPR, or willingness to gain certification.
• Knowledge of the sport and ability to teach it to students.
• Ability to foster positive human relations.
• Must pass OSAA certifications.

Pay

$2,360.00 stipend.
