Job Summary
The Middle School English Teacher is responsible for developing students’ reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills in a faith-centered environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging English Language Arts instruction aligned with curriculum standards
- Teach reading comprehension, literature analysis, writing (narrative, expository, persuasive), grammar, and vocabulary
- Incorporate a variety of texts, including novels, short stories, poetry, and informational materials
- Integrate Catholic values and themes into literature discussions and writing assignments when appropriate
- Encourage critical thinking, reflection, and respectful discussion of ideas
- Create a structured, respectful, and Christ-centered classroom environment
- Assess student progress through essays, projects, quizzes, and exams
- Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Maintain accurate records of grades, assignments, and attendance
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress
- Collaborate with faculty and participate in meetings, professional development, and school events
- Supervise students during non-instructional times as assigned
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field
- Valid state teaching certification (preferred or required depending on school)
- Experience teaching middle school students preferred
- P Practicing Catholic preferred or willingness to support the mission of Catholic education
- Completion of background check and diocesan safe environment training
