About the role
The position is located within the City Schools of Dectur's Schools department and reports directly to the Principal. Terms of employment include maintaining an up-to-date, in-field certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, with salary and length of contract determined by the Board of Education.
Primary Function
Plan and provide appropriate culturally-responsive learning experiences and educational opportunities for each student assigned to the classroom based on Georgia Standards and the CSD Framework for Equitable Student Outcomes, and ensure a classroom environment that aligns with the school's commitment to equity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Keep current on educational research, trends, and practices through continued professional development.
- Set long-term and short-term goals for student growth and achievement based on the standards for assigned courses, monitor progress towards meeting goals.
- Communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
- Demonstrate command of school subject(s) being taught.
- Develop and annually update a course syllabus for parents and students that includes: list of Georgia Standards being taught in the course, a course calendar with instructional units, assessments, and major projects, grading protocol, tutoring hours, and list of all curriculum resources being used in the class.
- Develop culturally-responsive lesson plans that are aligned to the Georgia Standards and ensure instructional materials are aligned to the Georgia Standards and make lesson plans available to administrators.
- Provide small group and individualized instruction to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of each student.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate interactive culturally-responsive learning experiences.
- Communicate regularly with parents/caretakers to report on student progress on the Georgia Standards, including but not limited to outside the normal classroom day by means of class newsletters, notes, telephone calls, conferences, emails, websites, etc.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in alignment with the local school PBIS protocol.
- Maintain records for report cards and/or parent conferences.
- Provide lesson-appropriate lesson plans for daily substitute teachers and long-term substitute teachers.
- Identify student needs, develop strategies for small groups and/or individual education plans, implement any needed Tier I and Tier II interventions, and make appropriate referrals through the school's student support model.
- Be available to students and parents/caretakers for education-related purposes outside the instructional day, including PTA events, family engagement events.
- Participate in professional learning to increase skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities and serve on committees when needed.
- Utilize technology effectively to plan, teach, and assess.
- Evaluate, select, and modify culturally-responsive resources and activities to match learners' needs and meet the curriculum standards.
- Prepare adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent.
- Participate in daily duties and responsibilities within the school, including extracurricular responsibilities.
- Support the district and local school vision, mission, and goals in words, actions, and behaviors.
- Comply with the Georgia Code of Ethics for Educators.
