Job Overview
The Dean of Instruction will coordinate instructional services and related support activities at the assigned campus. The incumbent may perform many of the same duties assigned to assistant principal positions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the principal in analyzing data, setting of instructional goals, expectations, and objectives for the school
- Cookordinate implementation of district approved curriculum, distribution of current curriculum guides and other instructional materials
- Assist with coordination of standardized test preparation
- Assist in the development and implementation of campus specific staff development
- Coordinate implementation of programs/courses for special populations of students
- Facilitate departmental activities directed toward implementation of action plans for instructional improvement
- Direct school resources and/or one's professional efforts to address the most pressing student needs
- Participate in developing the Campus Improvement Plan and assist with the curriculum-related activities such as program development and evaluation
- Use appropriate and effective communication techniques with students, staff, parents and other system administrators
- Enhance feedback skills by conducting conferences with parents, students, and/or teachers concerning vital issues
- Develop and communicate to students, staff, and parents the school’s guidelines and expectations for student conduct
Qualification Requirements
- Master's degree
- Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification
- Advancing Educational Leadersip (AEL) certificate or its equivalent
- Instructional Leadership Development (ILD or ILT) or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership
- Board Approved T-TESS Certification or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership
- Minimum of 2 years Successful classroom teaching experience
- Possess a moral and ethical compass
- Demonstrate a heart and passion for leadership
- Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
- Ability to manage personnel
- Ability to coordinate campus functions
- Ability to implement policy and procedures
- Ability to interpret data
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Work is performed in classrooms, offices, work stations and meeting rooms
- Occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials
- The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties
- May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress
