About the Role
This is an hourly and seasonal position for the fall season, running from August 24 to October 9, 2025. We are seeking a passionate middle school cross-country coach to support our after-school sports program, which competes in the West Bay Athletics League (WBAL). GMS is committed to inclusion and participation in athletics, welcoming students of all abilities and experience levels.
Responsibilities
- Assist with tryouts and team configuration.
- Run two after-school practices per week (schedule TBD: Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, 3:00 pm to 5:15 pm).
- Create and implement well-organized training plans.
- Attend all cross-country meets (between three and five during the season).
- Supervise team members until all students are picked up from practices and meets.
- Drive players from school to practice and meet locations using school vans.
- Be available between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm on practice and meet days.
Requirements
- Experience coaching cross country and a strong understanding of the fundamentals of the sport.
- Experience coaching youth.
- Ability to prepare well-organized training plans.
- Availability after school from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at least two weekdays per week.
- Strong and clear communication skills.
- Ability to work and collaborate well with youth and other coaches.
- Valid California driver’s license with a minimum of five years of driving experience.
- Good driving record to qualify for driving school vans.
- Must pass a background check, LiveScan, and TB (Tuberculosis) Risk Assessment.
- CPR and First Aid Training.
- Authorization to work in the United States (GMS does not support work visas).
