Middle School Art Teacher
Sayre School is seeking a highly motivated and qualified art teacher who desires a professional and fun working environment dedicated to student growth, progress, and achievement.

The successful candidate holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Art or Art Education, experience in the field, and an interest in collaborating with a team of teachers. An active curiosity about middle school students, openness to all forms of human diversity, flexibility, and a sense of humor are key. This is a full-time position at an independent school that emphasizes academic excellence, embracing challenge, and cultivating integrity.
Responsibilities
- Teach general art classes for grades 5 - 8
- Offer an after-school middle school art club one day per week
- Work with a group of advisees and support the social-emotional needs of students
- Serve as director for middle school art exhibits
- Develop the art program, including collaboration with Lower and Upper School art faculty for cross-divisional exhibits at school and in the community
- Collaborate with the team of Visual and Performing Arts teachers and other colleagues
- Work with performing arts faculty in planning and producing the annual Grandparents’/Special Persons’ Day performance
- Write narrative comments about students at the conclusion of each term
- Serve on committees and perform occasional supervision or other duties around the school
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Art or Art Education
- Experience in the field of art education
- Passion for teaching middle school students
- Openness to all forms of human diversity

Established in 1854, Sayre School is an independent PS through 12th grade college preparatory co-educational school located in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. A second campus, comprising a 50-acre athletic complex and farm, is several miles outside of town.
