Middle Market Senior Underwriting Officer- Construction
About the role
As a key growth segment within AXA XL Americas, our Middle Market business focuses on the expansion of AXA XL’s current offerings to mid-sized clients in the US and Canadian Commercial P&C market. As a Senior Underwriting Officer - Construction supporting the Middle Market organization, you will play an integral role in AXA XL’s drive towards profitable growth.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert-level technical support to underwriters and leverage referral authority to enable profitable growth and a balanced book of business in preferred segments within this vertical.
- Closely monitors portfolio performance across the vertical in partnership with Underwriting, Claims and Actuarial, identifying drivers of performance and key growth opportunities.
- Works in close collaboration with Product and Underwriting counterparts as well as broker partners to assess overall capabilities in the market and identify opportunities for enhancements in products or services.
- Drives underwriting strategy and risk selection through understanding of the competitive marketplace, preferred risk characteristics, lessons from loss trends, and competitor offerings.
- Establishes excellent working relationships with cross-functional groups including Claims, Compliance, Regulatory, Legal and other functions to engage and collaborate on issues related to the Casualty Lines of business.
- Represents AXA XL as a Construction subject matter expert and thought leader at industry conferences enabling the organization to see around corners and stay ahead of industry trends and emerging risks.
Requirements
We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Deep technical experience in the coverages, exposures and rating for Construction risks and experience with different rating programs and structures.
- Advanced knowledge of the principles of underwriting, primarily gained through extensive experience working in an underwriting or referral role.
- Intimate knowledge of the Construction market, specifically for mid-sized clients.
- Possess and demonstrate sound critical thinking skills, robust interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) and excellent negotiation abilities.
- Team player with excellent management skills and commitment to continued professional development.
- Prior people leadership is preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and extensive experience gained on the broker, carrier, or reinsurance side.
- CPCU, CRIS, RPLU designation is preferred.
Skills

Pay
The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 107,600-209,100. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location.
