Middle & High School Band Teacher - Long-Term Substitute

Covenant Day School is seeking a long-term middle and high school band substitute teacher to teach 6th – 8th grade and 9th – 12th grade band students from approximately September through November 2026. This temporary, salaried (exempt) role reports to the fine arts director and supports our mission within a Christian learning community.

Responsibilities

• Teach band courses as assigned, selecting instructional resources based on class and individual student needs in collaboration with other faculty.
• Regularly incorporate biblical integration and worldview naturally into teaching content.
• Use various technologies to support classroom learning.
• Deliver lesson plans and communicate learning goals for activities.
• Prepare classroom and materials for activities.
• Observe student progress and assist in preparation for musical performances.
• Manage and guide student behavior; provide feedback on work and progress while encouraging student efforts.
• Communicate with parents regarding student needs and progress.
• Model Christian principles and behavior to students and colleagues with an attitude of service.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the fine arts director.

Requirements

• Committed follower of Jesus Christ reflecting a desire to serve Him and others in work and life.
• Eagerness to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience, patience, courage, and Christian discipleship.
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• Teaching experience or experience directing band is highly desirable.
• Understanding of teaching with a biblical worldview and integration.
• Positive attitude and genuine love for and ability to connect with middle and high school youth.
• Passion for learning, strong classroom management skills, and willingness to work collaboratively.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and faculty/staff.
• Demonstrated ability to serve with initiative and proactive approaches.
• Computer skills applicable for effective teaching.
• Teaching license beneficial.
