About the Role

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, this position develops students' skills and competence in basic and complex mathematical principles, equations, formulas, and calculations, as well as an understanding of the application of mathematics in solving practical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers mathematics curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject areas, translating lesson plans into learning experiences to challenge students and best utilize available time for instruction.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in mathematics, including concepts such as real and imaginary numbers, formulas, calculations, geometry, and promotes creative thinking and analysis.
  • Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of mathematics to everyday existence and problem-solving.
  • Prepares, administers, and corrects tests, and records results.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including those with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Maintains familiarity with district and state standardized tests to adapt curriculum and maximize student achievement.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Teaches behavioral expectations and develops a behavioral plan to maintain order in the classroom, on the playground, and throughout the campus.
  • Counsels students when academic or adjustment problems arise.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies, maintaining standards of behavior needed for a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues and within the school's learning community.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators.

Requirements

  • State certification in Middle Grades Mathematics (license code 78200) and designated as "highly qualified."

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically able to operate equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, etc.
  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including the human body.
  • Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

Requires the ability to:

  • Compare and/or judge characteristics of data, people, or things.
  • Speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including giving instructions or assignments.
  • Read and prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, strategic plans, evaluations, budgets, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.
  • Speak before groups of people with poise, voice control, and confidence.
  • Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.
  • Utilize mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, and divide; use decimals and percentages; and apply principles of algebra, descriptive statistics, and statistical inference.
  • Inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
  • Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
  • Handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools with minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions, adapt to performing under stress, and handle emergency situations.
  • Talk and hear (perceiving the nature of sounds by ear) and communicate via telephone.

Pay

Salary based on state and local salary schedules.

Schedule

Full-time for ten (10) months.
