Mid-Level Transportation Engineer

Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is an ENR 500 A/E firm providing services in civil engineering, construction management and inspection, traffic and transportation design, water and wastewater systems, environmental and water resources, and landscape architecture.

About the role

This position will support a variety of transportation engineering projects in our Columbus, OH office. Responsibilities may include:

  • Collection of data and existing condition analysis
  • Alternative analysis evaluation for engineering reports
  • Development of horizontal and vertical alignments
  • Performing cross section and superelevation design
  • Roadside barrier design
  • ADA curb ramp design
  • Roadway modeling
  • MOT/traffic-related plans

The candidate may also be involved with projects in other AMT offices. The role offers a hybrid work schedule with 2-3 days in the office and flexibility to work remotely on other days.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in transportation engineering
  • Ohio Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Knowledge of civil engineering design concepts
  • Experience performing design for roadway transportation projects, including cost estimating, specifications, and highway plans for construction bid packages
  • Experience with transportation design standards
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and Open Roads Designer (ORD)
  • Prior work experience with ODOT required; experience with City of Columbus preferred
  • Experience with municipalities and other state DOTs is a plus

Skills

  • ORD intersection and roadway corridor modeling (preferred)
  • AutoCAD and/or Civil3D (preferred)
  • GIS applications such as ArcGIS or Google Earth (preferred)
  • SignCAD, AutoTurn (preferred)
  • Completion of various ODOT prequalification courses (preferred)
  • MS Office products (Word, Excel)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with team members
