About the role

The Advanced Metals Research & Technology team is looking for an Engineering Technical Analyst with extensive machining experience to guide fabrication activities in support of multiple commercial and defense research projects. In this role, you will collaborate with engineering, materials & process, and program teams to guide technical solutions from the lab to the factory floor.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of aerospace mechanical/structural component fabrication and assembly processes to support metallic fabrication research and development strategies.
  • Design, develop, verify, apply, and implement experimental technologies and improvements to established fabrication technologies.
  • Support multi-functional teams in technology development, coordinate cost and weight savings, and assist in strategic technology planning.
  • Research, design, develop, and analyze materials, tools, products, and related fabrication and assembly processes for aero systems structures, systems, and subsystems.
  • Develop, analyze, and apply material properties, design allowables, processing methods, and quality engineering specifications for metallic fabrication projects.
  • Review engineering drawings and documents for part conformance and assist in resolving part failure analysis for fabrication, assembly, and in-service problems.
  • Implement concepts and designs, analyze prototype systems and processes, and verify compliance with customer requirements, company policies, and governmental regulations.
  • Facilitate technology implementation in production and provide support to the user community.
  • Determine the feasibility of new design, modeling, and fabrication techniques, and investigate problems to restore quality and functionality of products and processes.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8 years of related experience with fabrication and machining technology.
  • Familiarity with fabrication and machining of high-temperature metal alloys (aluminum, titanium).
  • 5 to 8 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with CATIA or equivalent CAD programs.
  • Engineering and technical drawing interpretation knowledge.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Office 365, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, Visio).

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.
  • Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes, procedures, and specifications.
  • 3+ years’ experience in project management, developing and sustaining large complex projects.
  • Experience with NC programming (highly preferred), supporting coupon-level work and subscale prototypes.
  • Experience with hard metal machining and high-temperature alloys.
  • Understanding of metallurgical terminology and concepts.
  • Ability to quickly familiarize with factory manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with CATIA V5 (highly preferred).
  • Experience working with multi-functional teams on technical manufacturing projects.
  • Experience in a research and development environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and seek creative metallic fabrication solutions.

Pay

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: $78,100 – $119,700.

Join Spirit AeroSystems’ Kansas team and you may be eligible for a $5,000 state of Kansas Aviation tax credit for up to five years.

Schedule

Standard full-time schedule. This is a union-represented, on-site position.
