About the role
Leidos’ Defense Systems Uncrewed Systems Integration and Test is seeking a motivated and ambitious Mid-Level Software Engineer to join the Software, Simulation, Systems Engineering and Integration Directorate (S3I) Joint Technology Center – Systems Integration Lab (JSIL) Technology and Certification Center.
Primary Responsibilities
- Performs hands-on software system development from lab to field application
- Determines computing system requirements
- Analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls
- Designs and develops autonomous services, desktop applications, scripts, and utility programs
- Participates in technical design sessions and collaborates with stakeholders to establish the foundational architecture for new software applications
- Develops rapid prototypes and proof-of-concept applications to validate design decisions and mitigate technical risks early in the development lifecycle
Basic Qualifications
- BS degree in computer science or related technical degree plus 6-12 years+ professional software development experience
- or MS degree in computer science or related technical degree plus 2-8 years+ professional software development experience
- Proficiency in C# and the .NET ecosystem (equivalent Java experience may be substituted)
- Experience with software application architectural design patterns and decision-making for scalable, maintainable applications
- Experience with system integration, message handling, and data exchange protocols
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, version control, and agile methodologies
- Good understanding of markup languages (e.g., XML, YAML, HTML)
- Good understanding of DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Good understanding of API inputs and outputs
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux OS
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure coding practices
- Strong analytical and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and projects and to work independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in one or more of the following scripting languages: Bash, Python, or PowerShell
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), microservices, or cloud-based architectures
- Effective written and oral communication skills are also required to work with all levels of staff and managers
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
