Mid-Level Mechanical Engineering Consultant

Overview

Sargent & Lundy Consulting (SLC) supports electric power projects by evaluating and optimizing technical, commercial, environmental, and financial aspects for various clients.

Responsibilities

• Provide development support, conceptual design, and owner’s engineer services to clients, including technical evaluations of electric power generation projects and facilities.
• Support project economic and cost analysis, risk assessments, and contract development.
• Engage in engineering design reviews, technical due diligence, project development support, and conceptual design.
• Particularly valuable for experience in mechanical design of thermal power projects.
• Travel within the United States and internationally as needed.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program with a strong academic background.
• At least 5 years of experience in the electric power industry, including detailed design of mechanical systems of thermal power projects.
• Excellent technical communication and writing skills.
• Potential for experience in technical due diligence, owner’s engineering design reviews, and project development support of thermal power projects.
• General understanding of power station operations and performance reviews, process design at electric power generation facilities, and economic, cost analysis, and contract development.
• A familiarity with international design codes and standards.

Skills

• Willingness or ability to lead others in using modern tools like automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
• Experience in programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs.
• Additional learning in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields to enable effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.
