Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer (Generation)
WSP is seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to join our Power & Energy team in Houston, TX. The following locations will also be considered: Seattle, WA; Boise, ID; Overland Park, KS; Atlanta, GA; Oradell, NJ; and Mt. Laurel, NJ.

Responsibilities
- Design mechanical piping and equipment for renewable and fossil power generation facilities.
- Prepare mechanical equipment and packaged equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, and technical bid evaluations.
- Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and data; interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, and detailers/designers.
- Ensure effective communications with other engineering disciplines.
- Prepare construction/installation scopes of work for mechanical systems.
- Participate in the development of PFD’s and P&ID's.
- Perform piping design activities including sizing, pressure drop calculations, stress analysis, and pipe support design.
- Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.
- Assist with laying out installation of equipment, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor.
- Ensure project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, schematics, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
- Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations explaining research, findings, and recommendations.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations.
- Develop action plans for moderate- to high-level risk installation, equipment operations, and/or mitigation activities.
- Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
- Remain current in latest mechanical engineering techniques and practices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct; adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant post-education experience in mechanical design for industrial facilities.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Working knowledge of MicroStation or AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of Smart Plant 3D or CADworx.
- Experience using Caesar II or AutoPipe.
- Experience using Thermoflow.
- Working knowledge of relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Project management experience with small to mid-level projects, including tracking hours and expenses.
- Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design aspects of facilities, structures, and systems.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance to junior team members with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge and reach conclusions from testing, data collation, and analysis.
- Ability to assertively direct others in the field, such as subcontractors, to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
- Power plant design experience.
- Renewable natural gas plant design experience.

Pay
Expected salary (all locations): $86,100 - $150,950. The range reflects the company’s good faith belief of what it might pay based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity.
