Position Summary
Tetra Tech is seeking a full-time Mid-Level Geologist based out of our Chantilly, VA location. Candidates with geology experience are invited to apply.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide project management and technical support for environmental site assessment and remediation projects, related to federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients.
- Review, understand, and implement site-specific work plans and scopes of work.
- Manage and execute field investigations (including soil, water, and air sampling; drilling, well installation, subcontractor supervision, and coordination with analytical laboratories).
- Oversee construction and/or remedial action.
- Manage personnel field management.
Required Qualifications
- BS/BA degree in Geology or a related discipline.
- 4+ years of professional environmental consulting experience, with history of increasing responsibility.
- Experience carrying out Phase I ESAs (ASTM-compliant), Phase II Site Investigations, UST compliance monitoring, UST closures, and vapor intrusion assessments.
- Previous field experience, including supervision of sampling activities and environmental drilling operations.
- Experience preparing technical reports, memos, response to comments tables, and diagrams.
- Competent technical writing skills.
- Attention to detail, ability to observe, evaluate, and document site field conditions, and communicate changes in field conditions to senior staff.
- Ability to analyze and interpret chemistry and environmental data.
- Ability to interface with clients, subcontractors, working groups, and internal customers.
- Ability to work as part of a larger project team.
- Ability to be self-motivated and work independently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Strong health and safety ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the conceptual site model process, experience including CERCLA RI/FS and PA/SI.
- Project management training or experience.
- Experience with DOD, federal, state, municipal, and private sector projects.
- Ability to assist with cost estimating and obtaining bids from vendors and subcontractors.
- Ability to review and summarize agency regulations, policies, and procedures into “plain English.”
- GIS experience.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Training, OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training, and/or 8-hour OSHA Supervisors of Hazardous Waste Operations Training.
Physical Requirements
- Candidate must be able to walk large project sites and must be physically able to carry up to 35 pounds of equipment (such as sampling tools, GPS unit, field screening equipment and cameras) during field work.
- Field activities take place in a variety of weather conditions and can occur in remote locations and include areas of uneven terrain or occur during harsh weather.
- Field sampling and monitoring may include various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, and air).
- Candidate must be able to work in an office environment and complete office-based tasks.
Work Environment/Environmental Factors
- The work environment will consist of a mix of office and fieldwork, with some field work requiring overnight stays.
