Engineering$90k–$225k/yrFull-time

At Strategic Mission Critical, we specialize in engineering mission-critical facilities with precision and expertise. Our leadership team brings decades of experience, delivering robust, reliable solutions to data center providers worldwide. As demand for high-performance infrastructure grows—driven by AI and digital expansion—we lead through technical rigor and operational excellence. We seek leaders who enhance people, process, and performance across the firm.

About the role

We are seeking a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer to execute electrical design for mission-critical projects. Typical projects include greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients, campus planning, conceptual designs, feasibility studies, and power systems studies (e.g., Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash).

The candidate will independently execute basic electrical design projects, from established criteria through permitting and construction, and contribute as part of a larger team on complex projects under senior guidance. The role involves interfacing with internal (mechanical, telecommunications, fire protection, plumbing) and external (architectural, civil, structural) design leads.

The ideal candidate will mentor junior engineers, review others’ work, and collaborate with senior engineers to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical infrastructure for mission-critical buildings and campuses, including medium voltage distribution, highly redundant power systems (e.g., distributed and block redundant topologies), on-site generation, UPS backup, small power, lighting, grounding, and fire alarm.
  • Coordinate with internal and external disciplines for electrical power connections.
  • Interface with controls and telecommunications engineers for electrical equipment monitoring systems (EPMS).
  • Review and apply client standards, design criteria, applicable codes, and best practices to design projects.
  • Understand local and national construction codes and project specifications.
  • Produce detailed design documents using Autodesk Revit daily.
  • Use Microsoft tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams) for project collaboration.
  • Meet project deadlines, including working additional hours as needed for major deliverables.
  • Travel to project sites as required (approximately 10-20% travel).
  • Communicate clearly in written and spoken forms.
  • Lead junior engineers, designers, and modelers, and coordinate small project teams.
  • Mentor and train junior staff to develop electrical design expertise.
  • Maintain strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering (electrical focus preferred). 2-year or EET degrees with relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in facility electrical design, particularly using Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience in electrical design for large industrial and commercial buildings; mission-critical design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with power studies (e.g., Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, arc flash) is preferred.
  • Experience across the construction process: schematic design through construction administration, including submittal reviews, shop drawings, existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists.
  • Experience leading small electrical design teams and client interface is preferred.
  • Experience with construction management tools (e.g., Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud).
  • Basic understanding of power monitoring systems is a plus.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

Pay

Base compensation: $90,000–$225,000 (varies based on education, experience, skills, and location).

Benefits

  • 36-hour standard work week with hybrid working arrangement.
  • 13 paid holidays.
  • 100% coverage of medical, health, and dental insurance premiums for full-time employees; subsidized spouse and family premiums.
  • Employer-sponsored life and long-term disability insurance.
  • 401(k) plan with annual safe harbor contribution.
  • Reimbursement of professional licensing costs.
