Microbiology Technician

About the role

We are looking for a Microbiology Technician in Allentown, PA (7150 Windsor Drive, Allentown, PA 18106 USA). As a trusted partner, our mission is to make food systems safer, healthier, and more sustainable through a global network spanning 32 countries.

Responsibilities

• Prepare samples for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending.
• Write identification onto plates to track client and sample numbers.
• Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis process.
• Pour agar into plates or tubes to begin the growth process.
• Collect plates and place them in the incubator for specified time and temperature.
• Prepare media and broth for pathogen testing as required.
• Ensure media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence.
• Maintain knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) required for job responsibilities.
• Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis.
• Read plates and tubes to determine the number of organisms in the sample.
• Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes.
• Perform housekeeping duties, keeping work areas and equipment clean and sanitized.
• Participate in cleaning schedules and maintain retain samples as required.
• Adhere to all safety policies.
• Support laboratory management in implementing, maintaining, and improving the management system.
• Perform other related tasks as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma and 1+ year of relevant work experience.
• Basic knowledge of science to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain accurate results.
• Basic knowledge of personal computers to enter testing data and results.
• Basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies.
• Planning skills to maintain supplies and ensure analysis is completed within specified time.

Skills

• Time management and ability to prioritize samples and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to detail.
• Analytical skills to complete analysis procedures and determine microorganism concentration.
• General knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Physical dexterity for manipulating samples.

Work Environment

The role is in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials may occur. Safety equipment such as gloves, laboratory coat, and eyeglasses may be required. The incumbent may use an autoclave daily and will need to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Extended time in a standing position is expected, and the ability to detect slight variations in shades of color is necessary.

Pay

$19.00/hourly USD.

Schedule

5-day workweek: Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM. Overtime: Approximately 3–5 hours per week, paid at 1.5x your hourly rate.
