About the role

The Microbiology Medical Technologist position at Northwest Florida Community Hospital is a full-time role with a weekend schedule, offering benefits and an excellent work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiology testing according to established laboratory procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Process and evaluate patient specimens including cultures from blood, urine, wound, respiratory, stool, and other body fluids.
  • Identify microorganisms using manual and automated laboratory methods.
  • Perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing and accurately report results.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory analyzers and equipment.
  • Perform quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing as required.
  • Verify and report laboratory results accurately and within established turnaround times.
  • Recognize abnormal findings and communicate critical results promptly.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and patient records.
  • Follow infection prevention, biosafety, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Participate in laboratory quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with inventory management and maintain adequate laboratory supplies.
  • Cross-train in other laboratory departments as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.
  • Current Florida Medical Technologist License (or eligibility for Florida licensure).
  • ASCP, AMT, or equivalent national certification preferred.
  • Previous microbiology laboratory experience preferred.
  • Hospital laboratory experience is preferred but not required.
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Perform repetitive hand movements and fine motor tasks.
  • Ability to distinguish colors accurately for laboratory testing.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and occasionally push or pull equipment.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
