Microbiology Lab Assistant (Part-Time)

Part-time position in the Health Sciences Division.

Responsibilities

• Set up laboratory and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Examine, culture, and identify microorganisms.
• Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment for daily operation of the laboratory.
• Collect, prepare, clean, and store glassware.
• Stock and prepare media, reagents, chemical solutions, and stains.
• Coordinate with instructors to develop semester lab schedules.
• Maintain lab inventory and relay ordering needs to administrative staff.
• Train potential work study partners in lab maintenance procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a college microbiology course with a lab.
• Experience with computers.
• Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Moderate to heavy lifting over 10 lbs.
• Ability to reach above shoulder.
• Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and stooping.
• Regular attendance is an essential function for this position.

Qualifications

• Eighteen (18) credit hours of college, including at least one (1) successfully completed Introduction to Microbiology or Clinical Microbiology course with a lab.
• Six months' experience in a laboratory or related area.

Pay

$12.00 per hour

An unofficial degree conferring transcripts must be received for formal consideration; official transcripts are required if an offer of employment is extended. All finalists may be subject to a background check and/or drug test. Must be eligible to work in the United States.
