Microbiology Faculty (part-time)

About the role

We seek experienced industry professionals to teach undergraduate BSN nursing students on-site in Indianapolis, IN. This part-time, course-by-course opportunity focuses on sharing practical knowledge and expertise in a blended learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and provide an approved Covista syllabus aligned with campus templates, including terminal course objectives.
• Organize, prepare, and regularly update all course materials.
• Utilize online technologies (e.g., websites, email, discussions) and course-related software to enhance learning.
• Model effective oral and written communication to engage students and improve learning outcomes.
• Set clear course expectations by publishing terminal objectives, assignment/exam dates, and grading weights.
• Ensure exam content aligns with course objectives and maintain consistency and fairness in grading.
• Provide timely feedback to students and comply with all university policies and standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Course Details

Fundamentals of Microbiology with Lab (BIOS-242)

• Covers microbiology concepts, medically important microorganisms, infectious diseases, microscopy, microbial growth, genetics, antimicrobial agents, epidemiology, and immune responses.
• Lab exercises focus on aseptic techniques, isolation/culture of microorganisms, microscopy, and staining.
• Meets on campus twice weekly for eight-week sessions, with blended online components (e.g., discussions, assignments).

Available sections:

• Days: Mondays & Wednesdays, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
• Evenings: Mondays & Wednesdays, 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Requirements

• Master’s degree required for all faculty positions (with 18 graduate hours in the subject for undergraduate teaching).
• Subject matter expertise and outstanding communication skills.
• Strong motivational and instructional skills for diverse, non-traditional environments.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
• Official transcripts for all earned degrees from a regionally accredited institution (or NACES-approved equivalency evaluation for international degrees).

Pay

Compensation ranges from $1,120 to $7,245 per assignment, based on education, experience, course type, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
