About the role

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of South Alabama Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine is undergoing a multi-year expansion and is recruiting individuals who are dedicated to excellence in research, teaching, and training the next generation of biomedical research scientists. We invite applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. We seek individuals with multi-disciplinary expertise and whose research complements the department’s programs focused on infectious and immunologic diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality research that aligns with the department's focus on infectious and immunologic diseases.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Microbiology and Immunology.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new academic programs and curricula.
  • Engage in scholarly activities such as publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other researchers and departments within the college and university.

Requirements

  • PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or DVM/PhD degree with a strong record of research productivity.
  • Ability to secure extramural funding for research projects.
  • Experience in mentoring students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Microbiology, Immunology, or a related field.
  • Postdoctoral experience preferred.
  • Strong publication record in relevant scientific literature.
  • Experience in grant writing and securing external funding.

Skills

  • Expertise in infectious and immunologic diseases research.
  • Ability to teach and mentor students at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues across different disciplines.
