About the role
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of South Alabama Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine is undergoing a multi-year expansion and is recruiting individuals who are dedicated to excellence in research, teaching, and training the next generation of biomedical research scientists. We invite applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. We seek individuals with multi-disciplinary expertise and whose research complements the department’s programs focused on infectious and immunologic diseases.
Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality research that aligns with the department's focus on infectious and immunologic diseases.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Microbiology and Immunology.
- Participate in the development and implementation of new academic programs and curricula.
- Engage in scholarly activities such as publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other researchers and departments within the college and university.
Requirements
- PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or DVM/PhD degree with a strong record of research productivity.
- Ability to secure extramural funding for research projects.
- Experience in mentoring students and postdoctoral fellows.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Microbiology, Immunology, or a related field.
- Postdoctoral experience preferred.
- Strong publication record in relevant scientific literature.
- Experience in grant writing and securing external funding.
Skills
- Expertise in infectious and immunologic diseases research.
- Ability to teach and mentor students at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues across different disciplines.
