About the role

The Master of Healthcare (MHA) Administration Program and School of Public Health (SPH) seek applications for a part-time (50% or 20 hours per week) MHA Alumni Engagement Manager (Job Code 9761AO: Advancement Officer 4 - Operations Generalist).

This position will focus on coordinating, managing, and supporting an alumni relations strategy that best engages the MHA program’s alumni body through events, programs, and communications as well as the MHA Alumni Advisory Board (AAB) and its committees.

The position will report directly to the MHA Program Director with a dotted line to the SPH Associate Chief Advancement Officer for Alumni Engagement.

Responsibilities

  • MHA Alumni Advisory Board (AAB) (30% or 6 hours/week)
    • Manage and provide administrative leadership for the MHA Alumni Advisory Board.
      • In consultation with the Associate Chief Advancement Officer for Alumni Engagement, partner with the MHA program director to develop and implement a well-defined strategy for the MHA AAB.
        • Become a recognized source of knowledge and expertise on the role and responsibilities of the MHA AAB.
          • Manage the AAB and its committees, including preparing board meeting materials (e.g., agendas, presentations, reports, or briefings), scheduling and staffing board meetings, and ensuring distribution and archiving of board meeting minutes.
            • Manage the AAB’s board nomination, selection, and orientation process.
              • Work closely with MHA AAB members to empower them to fulfill their responsibilities, including managing SPH/MHA commitments, ensuring they are prepared for meetings, speaking engagements, and other events.
                • Drive AAB board coordination efforts with the Minnesota MHA Alumni Association Foundation (AA/F) (e.g., student awards at graduation, proposals and requests for program funding, ensure University of Minnesota Foundation endowment reports are received, etc.).
  • Programming, Events, and Volunteer Management (35% or 7 hours/week)
    • MHA Alumni Volunteer Management
      • Develop, promote and manage all MHA alumni volunteer opportunities in conjunction with SPH, MHA AAB, and program efforts.
        • In collaboration with SPH Advancement, facilitate the collection and maintenance of MHA alumni volunteer information and coordinate with Advancement staff to ensure volunteer activities are accurately coded within the donor management system.
    • Event Management
      • In coordination with SPH, plan and execute an annual MHA Alumni and Student Social.
        • In coordination with the MHA program, plan and coordinate the MHA alumni reception at the American College of Healthcare Executives conference and the MHA presence at the ACHE Expo.
      • Manage the MHA alumni reception at the American College of Healthcare Executives conference and the MHA presence at the ACHE Expo.
    • MHA Alumni Awards
      • Manage the biennial Greg Hart Distinguished Alumni Service Award from nomination process to awarding.
        • Facilitate the development of other novel MHA alumni awards to recognize outstanding alumni service and contributions.
  • MHA Communications (35% or 7 hours/week)
    • Handle routine alumni inquiries and serve as the first point of contact between MHA alumni and the MHA program director.
      • Work with the MHA program leadership team and graduate assistants to develop three alumni newsletters per year (one per semester and an annual report) in coordination with SPH Communications.
        • Highlight MHA alumni achievements and actively promote MHA program needs and volunteer opportunities on the MN MHA Alumni LinkedIn Group.
      • Serve as the coordinator for the MHA group on the UMAA’s Maroon and Gold Network.
  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in healthcare management, public relations, or a related field.
      • At least 6 years of relevant work experience.
    • Demonstrated experience that shows a strong commitment to customer service.
      • Demonstrated experience working collegially and collaboratively in a team setting and with diverse groups of individuals and departments.
    • Strong evidence of project management and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated record of managing multiple priorities, engaging others, and delegating work as needed, while meeting tight deadlines.
      • Demonstrated effective written and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to work a few evenings or weekends, based on alumni availability.

    Preferred Experience

    • Working in industry or alumni relations.
      • Experience managing boards and volunteers.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and execute programs and events to meet the interests and needs of a specified audience.

    Pay And Benefits

    Pay Range: $41,000 - $48,500 per year; depending on education/qualifications/experience
    Time Appointment: 50% Appointment
