Summary

The Clinical Equipment Coordinator (CEC) manages the Common Pool Medical Equipment (CPME) and its supplies to ensure clinical staff have access to necessary equipment for patient care. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and collaboration with departments including Nursing, Materials Management, Transport, and Biomedical Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Carry a pager and respond promptly to service requests.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of CPME and consumables/accessories.
  • Clean and tag equipment to established standards.
  • Monitor and maintain par levels of CPME and consumables/accessories.
  • Track consumable/accessory inventories and submit purchase lists to Materials Management.
  • Respond to service requests and determine if problems are equipment, operator, or procedural errors.
  • Send equipment to Biomedical Engineering for testing, repair, and upgrades.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance inspections occur on time.
  • Interface with Nursing and Materials Management to facilitate CPME rentals and purchases.
  • Coordinate clinical trials and evaluations with Nursing Management.

Job Relationships

  • Nursing: Provide ongoing training to nursing staff, maintain par levels for equipment and consumables/accessories, and assist in rotating CPME between floors and designated rooms.
  • Materials Management: Provide training to their staff, set up an interactive system with the CEC, and assist in coordinating CPME accessories and consumables.
  • Patient Transport: Interface and train with Patient Transport, assist during high call volumes or short staffing, and rotate one weekend day shift as Patient Transport Associate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Cooperative interactions, courtesy, respect, and compassion towards customers.
  • Timely responses to requests.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Basic technical knowledge of clinical equipment, preventive and corrective repair standards.
  • Knowledge of computers, electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles.
  • Ability to explain and demonstrate clinical equipment operations.
  • Knowledge of clinical equipment preventive and corrective repair standards.

Education

A high school diploma and/or some experience with clinical equipment or supplies is required.
