About the Role

As a leader within the Safety and Enterprise Services Safety Management Team, this position involves conducting data analysis, leading event reviews, managing vendor relationships, and fostering alignment across operational areas to drive improved safety outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct data analysis and translate insights into actionable recommendations and targeted initiatives that improve safety performance across the enterprise.
  • Lead event reviews and facilitate the identification, documentation, and communication of lessons learned to promote organizational learning and continuous improvement.
  • Manage contracts and relationships with key safety-related vendors, consultants, and application providers to ensure effective support of business objectives and operational needs.
  • Facilitate and influence the Enterprise Safety Manager team through technical expertise, collaboration, and partnership, fostering alignment across operating areas to drive improved safety outcomes.
  • Coordinates and oversees the implementation and administration of required training including OSHA, Federal Motor Carrier, Department of Transportation (as related to employee safety and health), and other applicable safety regulations (e.g., Forklift, Smith System, Respiratory Fit Test, Safety Data Sheets, Competent Person/Excavation Training).
  • Stays actively involved in safety team meetings and leadership training of safety team leaders to continually improve the effectiveness of the Company's safety initiatives for employee and vehicle safety.
  • Supports and develops safety-related positions and other division personnel to ensure safety objectives are met and employees have the right resources, knowledge, and personal protective equipment to perform their jobs safely.
  • Stays abreast of trends and developments in federal, state, and local regulations related to public safety and communicates these developments to management and applicable employees.
  • Serves as a safety resource for programs such as fire department training and RP1162 Emergency Responder and Contractor Awareness training.
  • Represents the division/department during OSHA and/or other governmental safety inspections and audits.
  • Conducts field safety audits and mock drills for the Company as well as contractor personnel related to equipment maintenance, compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate risk control policies, incident investigations, communications, site inspections, and record-keeping.
  • Identifies areas for improvement and provides recommendations, coaching, and feedback for improving occupational health and safety programs based on observations.
  • Leads as a culture champion by promoting the company’s vision, strategy, AtmoSpirit principles, and supporting wellness and safety initiatives.
  • Interacts with all levels of management to develop and achieve key strategies and objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, Business, Occupational Health, or a related field and five years of related experience in environmental health and safety.
  • Alternatively, a high school diploma or GED with seven years of related experience in environmental health and safety, or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with Company standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, motivate, and build consensus.
  • Ability to perform analyses involving ratios, percentages, and simple statistical methods.
  • Advanced knowledge of various software applications to create complex documents, reports, and graphics, with preferred experience in Microsoft Office applications.

Skills

  • Familiarity with risk management systems used for Workers' Compensation and Motor Vehicle Accident management, including Origami or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with reporting and data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar applications.
  • Knowledge of contemporary safety culture approaches and methodologies, including behavior-focused safety, human factors, systems thinking, and organizational learning principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, reporting, and presentation of performance metrics.
  • Experience analyzing safety performance data and translating findings into practical actions that drive measurable improvement.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to build alignment and drive results across multiple operational areas and functional business groups.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA)
  • Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO)
  • OSHA Certified Trainer Certification
  • Certified Safety Director (CSD)
  • First Aid and CPR Instructor Certification
  • Smith Driving Instructor Certification
  • Fully competent understanding and demonstrated ability to administer OSHA regulations and compliance directives.

Physical Demands

Requires occasionally performing activities including, but not limited to, bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning, and/or lifting.

Work Conditions

Primary job responsibilities require work both inside and outside an office environment. Overnight travel is required.
