MFM Sonographer- Reproductive Endo Infertility Part-time

Responsibilities

• Evaluates the request for OB/GYN and fetal echo ultrasound exams and protocols.
• Assesses the patient to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and methods of application.
• Maintains communication with MFM physicians and pediatric cardiologists to assure quality of service.
• Mentors less experienced staff to acceptable competency in any given ultrasound procedure.
• Utilizes equipment and accessories, employs techniques and procedures, and performs services in accordance with accepted standards of practice to generate ultrasound images.
• Provides patient education in written and/or verbal form prior to, during, and after the procedure to reduce anxiety and enhance comfort.
• Acts as an agent through observation and communication to obtain pertinent information for the physician to aid diagnosis and treatment management.
• Instructs and clinically supervises students enrolled in the NM Academy ultrasound program.
• Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards, including age-specific sensitivities and “patients first” guidelines.
• Participates in lifting and transporting patients to and from imaging devices.
• Assists pediatric cardiologists during fetal surgeries by performing and/or assisting fetal echo exams.
• Provides thorough explanations of procedures and risks to patients prior to exams.
• Documents imaging procedures manually and/or electronically to ensure correct charging.
• Sends acquired images to the appropriate reporting system using correct patient information for future retrieval.
• Composes preliminary results in the appropriate system prior to sending to the interpreting physician.
• Manages work list and triages exams according to accepted practices.
• Monitors stock of supplies in imaging rooms to ensure regular availability through timely reordering and rotation of dated items.
• Reports equipment failures, irregularities, or disrepair to the supervisor as soon as possible.
• Provides imaging services of optimum quality with optimum productivity and customer service.
• Identifies areas for potential improvement and recommends corrective actions.
• Ensures continuity of care through effective interactions with other departments, such as off-site facilities, emergency departments, and registration.

Qualifications

• College-based two-year training program with clinical education in an accredited healthcare setting.
• Technical competency in General Gynecological, Obstetrical, and Fetal Echo Ultrasound exams.
• Graduation from an accredited program in Ultrasound.
• ARDMS certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) and Fetal Echocardiography (FE).
• CPR-BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
• At least 3 years’ experience as a Sonographer.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
