MFLC Counselor Short Term or As Needed Coverage, JBSA, TX

About the Role

Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) provide proactive, solution-focused counseling services to military Service Members and their families, addressing issues before they escalate. MFLCs support adults or minors in various settings, including military units, families, or schools. As a Mission Ready Reserve (MRR) MFLC, you will work on an as-needed basis, stepping in where required without administrative burdens like insurance filing, progress notes, or treatment plans.

Responsibilities

• Provide face-to-face counseling to military Service Members and their families (individual, couples, family, and children).
• Recommend appropriate referrals and handoffs to military and community resources based on clinical assessment.
• Offer presentations on social skills development and social-emotional learning, particularly for early childhood development.
• Build rapport with Service Members, spouses, and children by attending installation and community events.
• Address challenges unique to the military community, such as transitions, frequent moves, separations, deployments, and reunifications.

Adult Counseling

• Support eligible Service Members and adult family members on issues including:
  • Relationships
  • Stress management
  • Parenting and parent-child communications
  • Child behavioral issues
  • Frequent relocations and deployments
  • Financial and budget issues
  • Job stress
• Services are provided on military installations, either in community service buildings or embedded with a unit.

Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) Counseling

• Support eligible children, youth, parents, staff, and faculty through counseling, consultation, and outreach.
• Engage in activities with children and youth, provide coaching and guidance to staff and parents, and model behavior management techniques.
• Address issues such as:
  • Identifying feelings
  • Bullying
  • Conflict resolution
  • Self-esteem
  • Managing anger and aggression
  • Separation from parents
  • Problem-solving
  • Coping with deployment and reunification
  • Transition and moving
  • Sibling and parental relationships
  • Time management
• Services may be provided at installations, Child Development Centers (CDCs), Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) schools, summer schools, camps, and other programs.

Work Environment

Duties are performed in multiple indoor (60%) and outdoor (40%) locations, including:

• Military installations, school settings, or Child Development Centers (CDCs).
• Outdoor environments may involve uneven terrain (grassy, gravel, or dirt areas), stairs, and exposure to weather.
• CDC settings may require sitting on the floor to interact with children for up to 2 hours at a time.

Requirements

• A master’s degree or higher in the Behavioral Health Professions (MS/MSW/MA/PhD).
• Licensure to practice at the independent practice level (LCSW, MFT, LPCC, Psychologist) in a U.S. state or territory.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Ability to pass a basic background check for employment and a National/Child National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI/CNACI) clearance (Public Trust clearance).

Pay

Pay Range: $28/hr. - $50/hr.
