MFG SPECIALIS, (3RD SHIFT): $30-$43/hr

About the role

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy. Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we are designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. As a Manufacturing Specialist, you will support implementation of production process and equipment improvements to reduce downtime and improve quality. This role partners with manufacturing and equipment engineering teams to identify, implement, and track improvement activities and serves as first-tier engineering support for production to help shorten the timeline to SPARC.

Hours: 10:00 pm - 6:30 am

Responsibilities

• Brainstorm, trial, and implement continuous improvement projects to reduce build hours and defects
• Work with manufacturing engineers, equipment engineers, and technicians to develop and qualify new manufacturing techniques and processes
• Document manufacturing system downtime (frequency and duration) and troubleshoot to reduce downtime
• Design, build, and commission electromechanical equipment and tooling for process or efficiency improvements
• Write and update process work instructions
• Troubleshoot and resolve nonconformances and production blockers
• Perform R&D and prototype hardware builds with minimal documentation and oversight using mechanical and precision tools (torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, hand tools)

Requirements

• Minimum 6 years of experience with mechanical and electrical assembly and in a manufacturing environment
• Proficient and efficient use of hand tools
• Electro-mechanical system troubleshooting skills
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Visio)
• Commitment to safety and quality
• Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and communicate them to team and management
• Ability to create and monitor team performance metrics
• Desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment with daily change
• Strong written and verbal communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree in an engineering-related field or higher
• Experience with lean manufacturing, 5S, or Six Sigma principles
• Experience with manufacturing equipment development, electro-mechanical design, or maintenance

Physical Demands

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to stoop, type, stand, or sit for extended periods
• Dedication to safety working around hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
• Willingness to travel or work nights/weekends/on-call occasionally

Pay

$30-$43/hour + 15% shift differential
