About the role

Perform general to advanced Metrology repairs, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance (PM) on all plant equipment/systems, including test standards, process measurement and control, utility, laboratory, and benchtop instrumentation. Responsibilities include calibration, repair, and PM of process measurement and control instrumentation, utility instrumentation, and general laboratory instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Rebuild control valves, actuators, positioners, and switching devices.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and pneumatic control circuits.
• Perform electronic maintenance for pressure, temperature, flow, weight, pH, DO, and other critical process parameter-measuring devices.
• Use equipment manuals and drawings to troubleshoot problems.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and other departments to troubleshoot equipment and process issues.
• Maintain frequent communication with manufacturing personnel regarding priorities and equipment repair status.
• Support failure analysis to determine root causes and recommend improvements; participate in FEMA teams and process improvement initiatives (OPEX).
• Locate spare parts and recommend inventory stock levels.
• Document all work on work orders, calibration datasheets, and other required forms.
• Support project engineering with design, installation, and validation of new plant systems, including facility, process, laboratory, and utility systems.
• Assume a lead role for Metrology department functions on large projects, including coordination, tracking, reporting, and meetings.
• Use root cause failure analysis tools to enhance equipment reliability.
• Develop and formalize written instructions for PM tasks and SOPs, including charts, graphs, and data records using Word, Excel, and other document generation tools.
• Assist with planning equipment/system shutdowns for maintenance and calibration.
• Recommend and implement system modifications/upgrades to improve efficiency, performance, and safety.
• Perform general to advanced repair, troubleshooting, and PM of automation systems, including DCS/BMS/PLC systems; interpret automation configuration errors and perform loop checks.
• Cross-train Metrology technicians as required.
• Support plant operations during off-hours if needed.
• Adhere to all safety requirements, follow safe procedures, and report unsafe conditions or potential hazards.
• Support cGMP standards as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 10+ years of industry experience in metrology, electronics, or electrical roles.
• Previous electronics or electrical experience.
• Prior apprenticeship, technical college, or military experience is a plus.
• Advanced knowledge of plant equipment systems; ability to operate components and complete systems without assistance.

Physical Demands & Working Environment

• Work in environments that may require respiratory protection.
• Work in mechanical/production spaces that may require hearing protection and enrollment in a hearing conservation program.
• Ability to discern audible cues and inspect tasks with 20/20 corrected vision.
• Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, or ramps.
• Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods (120 minutes).
• Ability to conduct activities using repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• Ability to operate machinery and/or power tools.
• Ability to move objects up to 33 pounds.
• Ability to bend, push, pull, reach (18” to 60” in height), and use twisting motions.
• Work in temperature ranges from -20°C (with cold suit) to 35°C.
• Work in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
• Work in small, enclosed spaces and at heights greater than 4 feet.
