Position Overview
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Metrologist to support dimensional inspection and validation of complex satellite assemblies and precision components.
This role is critical to ensuring product quality, conformance to engineering specifications, and compliance with aerospace standards.
What You’ll Do
- Dimensional Inspection & Validation
- Perform high-precision dimensional inspections on complex assemblies and components
- Validate critical dimensions against engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements
- Utilize CMM, laser trackers, Romer arms, and laser scanning equipment for measurement activities
- Equipment Setup & Calibration
- Set up and operate metrology equipment to ensure accurate data collection
- Perform routine verification and calibration checks on measurement systems
- Maintain traceability of measurement systems in alignment with ISO 17025 standards
- Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze measurement data to identify deviations, trends, and non-conformances
- Document inspection results and generate detailed reports for engineering and quality teams
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with internal and regulatory requirements
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve dimensional issues
- Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions
- Provide technical guidance on measurement best practices
- Continuous Improvement & Compliance
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance measurement accuracy and efficiency
- Ensure compliance with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T), ISO standards, and internal quality systems
What You Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Technical degree preferred)
- Minimum 3–5+ years of experience in metrology, calibration, or precision measurement
- Hands-on experience with:
- CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines)
- Laser Trackers
- Portable CMM / Romer Arms
- Laser Scanning systems
- Proficiency in:
- PC-DMIS
- Spatial Analyzer (SA)
- Strong understanding of:
- ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards
- Measurement principles and tolerancing
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD models
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace or high-precision manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with ISO 17025 calibration standards
- Experience with large assembly alignment and verification
- Knowledge of composite materials (e.g., carbon fiber structures)
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to use hands and fingers to perform repetitive and precision tasks
- Ability to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as required to perform job duties
- Ability to communicate effectively, including talking and hearing
- Ability to work in, on, around, and in proximity to large structures, equipment, and tooling
- Ability to lift, push, and/or carry items up to 40 pounds as required
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and equipment
- Ability to work in and around tight or confined spaces
- Ability to work in environments that may include exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and/or hazardous materials (e.g., carbon fiber)
