Meter Severance Technician

About the role

The Meter Severance Technician position involves making in-person visits to delinquent customers to ensure payment of utility bills. The role requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to assess and address potential theft issues.

Responsibilities

• Review customer accounts and make decisions to extend or discontinue service
• Communicate effectively with both internal and external customers
• Drive and operate utility vehicles safely
• Read and relock/move meters for unauthorized service connections
• Investigate for additional theft on other services at premises
• Direct and train other personnel as needed
• Report irregularities and abnormal conditions found during fieldwork

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid Indiana Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record
• Pass the Operator Qualification Conditions test for the Gas Division
• Pass the Meter Pro test for meter reading at a minimum of 95%
• Ability to independently organize and manage daily workload
• Pass and participate in the random Drug & Alcohol program

Qualifications

• Two years or more experience in Distribution or Gas/Water Operations, preferred
• Attention to detail and desire to perform account analysis and transaction processing
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

Pay

Minimum Hourly Wage: $43,600 (Grade 4)
