About the role
As a Meteorologist at Spectrum News, you'll primarily focus on weather forecasting to keep your community safe and informed. You'll be part of a collaborative team that creates compelling, timely, and accurate content for traditional and digital platforms.
Responsibilities
- Provide easy-to-understand weather updates
- Create compelling, timely, and accurate content for viewers
- Tell weather stories creatively across TV, connected television, and digital platforms
- Collaborate with other newsroom staff to produce high-quality content
- Work in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment with new stories to tell and perspectives to uncover
Requirements
- Experience forecasting and presenting weathercasts - 2+ years
- Working knowledge of TV weather graphics systems
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology
- Knowledge of synoptic meteorology, tropical, and radar
- Ability to anticipate situations, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
- Willingness to travel to discover important stories in your neighborhood and interact with the community
- Ability to work different shifts or longer shifts due to "breaking news" and severe weather emergencies
- Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays
Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
- National Weather Association (NWA) and/or the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal
- Working knowledge of general office computer software, newsroom software, and basic non-linear editing systems
- May be required to lift up to five pounds

- Climate-controlled environment throughout the year
- Open newsroom setting with a semi-noisy environment
- Uses various studio, weather forecasting, and newsgathering television equipment, computers, and computer-related equipment
