Meteorologist

About the role

The successful candidate will join WTAJ's award-winning weather team, providing essential weather coverage and engaging with audiences across various platforms.

Responsibilities

• Provide weather coverage for all broadcast and digital platforms
• Ensure all weather content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
• Write and deliver weather stories in a clear and concise manner
• Aid in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating weather programming and other content
• Respond to breaking and severe weather events and other urgent newsroom situations
• Work closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage
• Participate in promotional activities including public appearances
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
• Write web stories detailing the local forecast on a daily basis
• Interact with viewers and users on social media sites

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Fluency in English
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
• Two years’ experience in weather reporting or anchoring preferred
• Superior on-air presence
• Experience with Baron Lynx software is a plus
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Strong understanding of the field of meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting
• Knowledge of AP ENPS and Adobe Premiere Pro is helpful, but not required
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Flexibility to work any shift
