Meteorologist

About the role

The successful candidate will join WTAJ's award-winning weather team, providing essential weather coverage across various platforms including WTAJ-TV, WTAJ.com, WTAJ+ and WTAJ 24/7 Weather.

Responsibilities

• Provide weather coverage on a wide range of topics, from floods to freeze warnings.
• Work closely with the news team and other meteorologists to deliver weather information with urgency and warmth.
• Convey weather information clearly, engagingly, and meaningfully to news consumers through various platforms.
• Produce and present weather reports for all broadcast and digital platforms.
• Ensure all weather content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
• Write and deliver weather stories in a clear and concise manner.
• Assist in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating weather programming and other content.
• Respond to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsroom situations as required.
• Participate in promotional activities, including public appearances.
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Write web stories detailing the local forecast on a daily basis.
• Interact with viewers and users on social media sites.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to ad lib when required.
• Two years’ experience in weather reporting or anchoring preferred.
• Superior on-air presence.
• Experience with Baron Lynx software is a plus.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of the field of meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting.
• A strong understanding of AP ENPS and Adobe Premiere Pro is helpful, but not required.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Flexibility to work any shift.
