Metallurgy Engineer
About the Role
Entry-level position in Metallurgy and/or Material Science, focusing on heat treating, welding, and fundamental to practical knowledge of aerospace metal alloys. This role involves metallographic sample preparation, microstructure analysis, heat treatment, and welding. Prior airline experience is not required, but direct experience in metallographic sample preparation, microstructure analysis, and heat treatment is preferred.
You will work independently and collaboratively with stakeholders to solve problems related to aircraft design, operation, maintenance, performance, modification, or repair. This includes defining maintenance programs, analyzing regulatory requirements, authoring technical work scopes, and providing on-site technical support for shop, line, and base operations.
Responsibilities
- Use a structured, logical, and analytical approach to problem-solving for aircraft and components.
- Define maintenance programs, configuration, and serviceability criteria to ensure safe and legal operations.
- Analyze and implement regulatory requirements.
- Author, design, and manage technical work scopes.
- Provide on-site technical support for shop, line, and base operations.
- Interface with internal and external organizations (OEMs, OSVs) regarding aircraft, engine, and component issues.
- Develop complex solutions and implementation plans, including project justification, cost/benefit analysis, and management of project implementation.
- Obtain FAA approvals as required.
- Coordinate work with other operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and efficiency.
- Organize and manage priorities for assigned responsibilities to meet project deliverables or maintenance program changes.
- Oversight of metallographic and SEM labs.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent aviation maintenance experience.
- 0 to 5 years of experience.
- Familiarity with material science and metallurgy, including manufacturing processes such as heat treat, welding, machining, casting, forging, plating, and composites.
- Professional report writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced maintenance environment with time-critical return-to-service deliverables.
- Ability to simplify complex technical issues into clear, actionable communication for non-technical audiences.
- Clear and concise communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Metallurgical and Material Science degree with one or more additional technical degrees in related fields (Mechanical/Aerospace/Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, etc.).
- Prior airline experience.
- Airline or industry knowledge of general ATA Chapters, including aircraft structures and disciplines (specific ATA 21, 25, 52, 53, 54, 55, 57, 72).
- Working knowledge of Boeing and Airbus SRMs, SBs, and OEM documentation.
- Experience with NAA, NTSB, and Aerospace OEM joint investigations.
- Understanding of wet and dry analytical chemistry techniques.
- High-level knowledge of analytical instrumentation and techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Pay
The base pay range for this role is $83,695.00 to $109,004.00. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
