About the role

This position is responsible for working with high-net-worth clients in a Merrill branch with annual revenues of $100k–$5mm. You will identify client needs, develop relationships, review investment goals, and prepare investment recommendations that align with the goals of both existing and prospective clients. The role leverages technology to achieve business growth goals, profiles clients to determine their investor profile and financial objectives, and builds a sustainable book of business. This position is subject to SAFE Act registration requirements, including background checks and federal registry system registration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored and personalized advice to clients through reviews and presentations, partnering with management to assess financial goals and recommend investment advisory strategies.
  • Understand and recommend client solutions best suited for their financial needs, such as core Banking, Investment, and Life Priority™ solutions.
  • Shadow Financial Advisor teams to build your network by sharing relevant market developments and discussing new products to promote portfolio growth.
  • Leverage available resources and technologies to optimize the customer experience and serve clients with operational excellence and accuracy.
  • Participate in ongoing training focused on developing a book of business to meet and exceed predefined financial targets and progress to the next phase as an advisor.
  • Build relationships with internal service providers based on client needs and asset thresholds.
  • Proactively manage risk in every aspect of business, product, and service transactions using available tools.

The Advisor Development Program (ADP) Journey

During this stage, the Merrill Financial Solutions Advisor (MFSA) provides training and guidance through a defined path to become a successful and independent financial advisor. You will work with affluent and high-net-worth clients, identifying needs, developing relationships, and preparing investment recommendations. The role focuses on developing relationship management skills necessary to operate in an Elite Growth Practice (EGP).

  • Receive training and one-on-one mentorship from managers invested in your success, including enrollment in Merrill’s Academy.
  • Build connections to grow your network and business, interacting with Merrill financial advisors, institutional retirement participants, and higher-net-worth clients.
  • Deliver advice through client reviews and presentations, including financial goal assessments and investment strategy recommendations.
  • Learn about the full suite of financial solutions and connect clients to appropriate products, such as core Banking, Investment & Life Priority™ solutions.
  • Access a strong referral network to increase opportunities for client acquisition and collaborate with specialists.
  • Utilize marketing strategies to reach wider audiences and engage in ongoing professional development to deepen skills.
  • Explore potential opportunities for professional growth, including leading client and conference seminars.

Requirements

  • Currently holds FINRA Securities Industry Essentials (SIE).
  • 4+ years of progressive professional and/or military experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in the investments industry.
  • Ability to obtain Series 7 and 66 licenses within the allotted program timeframe.
  • Self-starter who efficiently manages time and capacity.
  • Sets and accomplishes goals, builds and nurtures strong relationships, and collaborates effectively with others.
  • Communicates effectively and confidently, comfortable engaging all clients.
  • Manages goals, navigates complexity, prioritizes tasks, and executes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adapts to new information, seeks solutions for clients, and incorporates regulatory due diligence into daily activities and long-term strategies.

Qualifications (Desired)

  • Experience working in the financial services industry and/or a sales environment where goals were met or exceeded.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to multitask in a demanding environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a business-related field.
  • Proven ability to partner and promote lead generation.
  • Experience balancing investment management, sales activities, and new client development.
  • Achieved additional professional designations such as Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and/or Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC).
  • Obtained insurance licenses.
