About the Role
The Merchandising Supervisor is responsible for executing operational, human resources, and administrative tasks with excellence. This role involves leading a team of merchandisers through training, communication, and performance management while ensuring optimal product placement, inventory levels, and sales growth. The position is based in garden centers around Eugene, OR.
Responsibilities
- Attend meetings as requested and follow oral/written directions in a team-oriented environment.
- Conduct performance evaluations of subordinates per company protocols.
- Ensure compliance with company merchandising guidelines, standards, and policies.
- Maintain strong relationships with store managers and associates to negotiate favorable product placement and displays.
- Interview, hire, train, and manage a team of merchandisers across assigned store locations.
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to support team performance and professional growth.
- Manage time cards, approve payroll, and address attendance issues in coordination with HR.
- Oversee execution of planograms, store layouts, and promotional displays in alignment with company guidelines.
- Ensure timely stocking of products, removal of unsellable items, and restocking of displays.
- Monitor inventory levels and product placement to maximize sales opportunities.
- Maintain regular communication with the Area Manager, providing updates on store-level concerns, inventory, and team performance.
- Complete store visit surveys, submit required photos, and meet reporting deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with store leadership, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
- Ensure team adherence to safety protocols, merchandising standards, and company policies.
- Execute corrective action as needed, including verbal/written warnings and terminations in partnership with HR.
- Ensure accurate signage, pricing, and ad execution across stores.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for escalations or store concerns within assigned locations.
- Provide hands-on merchandising support by covering store visits during team absences to maintain consistent execution and service levels.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1-3 years of merchandising experience.
Physical Demands
This role involves heavy physical work, including exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing racks, and reaching. Team members must safely lift and move plant products or displays weighing up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
This supervisory role is physically active and hands-on, primarily based in garden centers of retail locations such as The Home Depot. Work occurs outdoors or in semi-covered areas, requiring preparedness for varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and cold.
