Position Overview

A leading retail and e-commerce organization is seeking a detail-oriented Merchandise Specialist to support merchandise operations. This freelance opportunity is ideal for a self-directed professional who can manage high-volume operational work, maintain accurate data, and provide responsive support to internal teams, suppliers, and business partners.

The Merchandise Specialist will help maintain merchandising information, coordinate incoming requests, and support item, supplier, pricing, and purchase-order processes. Success requires strong organization, sound judgment, clear communication, and consistent attention to detail.

This is a freelance position from September 7, 2026 – January 29, 2027, and will be remote.

Responsibilities

  • Review, prioritize, and complete requests from buying teams, distribution centers, suppliers, and internal partners.
  • Enter, update, and maintain merchandising data across internal systems.
  • Support item setup, supplier setup, SKU attribution, item and pricing maintenance, and purchase-order activities.
  • Maintain accuracy across data-entry and operational workflows.
  • Communicate status updates, questions, and issue details to team members, leaders, buyers, suppliers, and cross-functional partners.
  • Identify data discrepancies, process gaps, and operational risks; escalate issues with clear supporting context.
  • Follow documented procedures and standard operating processes while identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Build working knowledge of merchandising systems, reporting tools, operational processes, and retail business practices.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in retail, e-commerce, merchandising, product development, operations, or data support.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when working with pricing, item attributes, SKUs, supplier information, and order data.
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfort working with urgency while maintaining accountability and ownership of assigned work.

Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excel: Ability to sort data, copy and paste information, and run macros.
  • Outlook: Ability to send and respond to emails, attach documents, use templates and signatures, manage shared mailboxes, and communicate with varied audiences.
  • Microsoft Teams: Comfortable using direct messages, group chats, and channels to coordinate work and communications.
