As a Merchandise Manager (MM), you directly lead the Freight team and all store associates while serving as the Manager on Duty. You are responsible for executing merchandising standards, delivering exceptional customer experiences, maintaining operational controls, ensuring inventory integrity, and driving sales.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the Merchandise Movement Process is flawlessly executed.
• Oversee merchandising, signing, and resets in Now, Style, Room, Tech, and Party departments.
• Perform opening and closing store procedures.
• Act as the Store Manager in their absence, including supervising, training, coaching, and developing all associates.
• Assist in staff scheduling and review all corporate communications to react accordingly.
• Partner with supervisors or the corporate office regarding store issues.
• Drive store sales, control expenses, and use financial reporting to identify business opportunities.
• Assist in the payroll process and ensure the budget aligns with the plan.
• Execute merchandising procedures and maintain assigned zones.
• Set and maintain Market Plan, Signage, and other Merchandise Sets.
• Ensure the execution of the company’s Inventory Integrity process.
• Adhere to and hold associates accountable to all Five Below Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Responsible for cash handling procedures, including preparing and dropping bank deposits.
• Authorize register functions, including post voids, returns, and discounts.
• Comply with Human Resources policies and procedures.
• Lead Asset Protection and Safety processes, holding associates accountable.
• Deliver exceptional customer service through personal contact with customers.
• Assist in receiving and stocking procedures, including unloading merchandise from trucks, checking in shipments, staging merchandise, and packing out merchandise.
• Lead and ensure Five Below’s Packaway Process is completed within provided timeframes.
• Perform store maintenance, including taking out garbage, sweeping, cleaning bathrooms, and maintaining the stock room.

Essential Job Functions

• Frequently operate a cash register.
• Frequently move merchandise weighing up to 25 lbs and place/remove merchandise up to a height of 5-10 feet.
• Frequently ascend/descend ladders to retrieve and put away stock.
• Frequently position self to kneel, bend, twist, and stoop, including in the stock room and on the sales floor.
• Frequently communicate and exchange information with customers, managers, and coworkers via telephone and face-to-face.
• Frequently move across the sales floor and to/from the stock room.
• Must be able to identify and discern email and print instructions regarding merchandise layouts, associate schedules, and standard operating procedures.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary, upright position for 80% of the time.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent; college experience preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of management experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and think creatively.
• Ability to maintain composure under pressure.
