Responsibilities

  • Tactical Project Team Support
    • Works with the Project Management Teams to understand the customer and their needs through regular communication and meetings.
    • Translates MEP strategy into actionable plans for Project Teams, breaking down strategies into tasks and setting clear goals.
    • Ensures effective communication of MEP aspects within projects, disseminating updates and crucial data to all stakeholders.
    • Assists in customizing MEP solutions to project requirements by working with design and engineering teams.
    • Provides tactical oversight of MEP implementation during project execution, monitoring progress and addressing technical issues.
    • Facilitates collaboration between MEP and other project disciplines, coordinating with Gray AE and/or consultants.
    • Supports Project Teams in MEP problem-solving and decision-making by offering technical advice and proposing solutions.
    • Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with industry partners, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Pre-Construction Project Administration
    • Supports the MEP Unit Leader as a secondary or primary point-of-contact in managing pre-construction MEP strategy for projects up to $200MM+.
    • Actively collects owner information and liaises with Gray’s internal departments, design, and/or discrete services to deliver detailed MEP packages.
    • Attends customer meetings to present and explain the MEP approach, ensuring alignment with the customer’s vision.
  • Design Development Liaison
    • Coordinates design activities of MEP consultants and sub-contractors to ensure seamless integration with other disciplines.
    • Conducts detailed reviews of design documents to confirm adherence to specifications and scope-of-work.
    • Supports the MEP Group Leader in identifying sourcing and procurement opportunities for specific equipment to provide better value.
  • Financial Success
    • Communicates regularly with the Project Executive and/or Project Management Team to provide updates on MEP discipline progress.
    • Operates within budgetary limitations and participates in monitoring and purchasing materials, subcontracts, equipment, and services.
    • Engages in detailed reviews of change orders before issuance to subcontractors and customers, ensuring accuracy and adherence to Gray’s standard operating procedures.
    • Supports Project Management Teams in the red file process to ensure accuracy and adherence to project budgets.
  • Risk Management
    • Ensures comprehensive understanding of commercial terms and conditions within owner contracts and subcontracts among all parties.
    • Develops a comprehensive project risk management plan for MEP disciplines, encompassing internal and external risks.
    • Regularly assesses the effectiveness of risk management strategies and collaborates to refine the plan as needed.
    • Provides proactive MEP oversight to identify potential project challenges early and assists in developing corrective measures.
    • Demonstrates and communicates a clear, effective approach to problem-solving aligned with project objectives.
  • Relationship Management
    • Serves as the primary point-of-contact for Project Management Teams regarding MEP disciplines.
    • Collaborates with the MEP Unit Leader to develop and execute the project’s communication and relationship management plan.
    • Demonstrates strong leadership qualities and upholds Gray's Core Values within and outside the project team.
    • Facilitates seamless communication and coordination between customers, Project Management Teams, Gray AE, consultants, and various Gray departments.
    • Collaborates with the Project Management Team to ensure smooth workflow continuity during team member transitions.
  • Team Member Development
    • Ensures Project team members support and abide by Gray’s vision, core values, and mission statement.
    • Monitors project team cohesiveness and develops action plans to address issues related to MEP resources.
    • Mentors and trains Project Management Team Members in MEP disciplines.
  • Collaboration
    • Maintains regular communication with the MEP Unit Leader, Project Executives, and fellow MEP Unit Managers.
    • Coordinates with cross-functional teams across Gray’s discrete service offerings.
    • Maintains a cooperative and productive work environment, encouraging teamwork among all project stakeholders.
  • Administrative Authority
    • Advises Project Management Teams and MEP Unit Leader on the execution of subcontract agreements, early payment releases, and subcontractor change orders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and a minimum of ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of ten years of experience managing MEP disciplines of design/build projects or hard bid projects in the relevant market.
  • Experience in all contracting methods such as lump sum, GMP, cost plus construction management, and fee-based construction.
  • Understanding of legal aspects and implications of contractual language.
  • Proven record in increasing project profitability from the initial project profit margin on multiple projects.
  • Sufficiently knowledgeable in technical aspects of engineering and design disciplines to represent Gray as the "primary point of contact" throughout project development and execution.
  • Thorough knowledge of costs and fees associated with engineering and design disciplines and services Gray offers, with proficiency as a "subject matter expert" in MEP disciplines.
  • Thorough understanding of the impact caused by changes in design, engineering, or construction phases on overall project cost, schedule, and construction management.
