MEP Superintendent

About the Role

The MEP Superintendent provides direction for all aspects of MEP coordination for their assigned project. Responsible for providing construction support for MEP systems and overseeing the balancing, commissioning, and validation certification of these systems.

Responsibilities

• Support superintendents and project managers in resolving technical problems with MEP systems.
• Manage project costs to ensure completion within budget expectations, with full involvement in the entire preconstruction and construction process.
• Assist the project team in developing the project schedule, including critical path steps and budgeting time required to meet deadlines.
• Oversee MEP project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation while ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.
• Manage the owner-architect interface and planning/installation for HVAC, electrical, controls, plumbing, process piping, and fire protection design/construction coordination.
• Support both pre-construction and the project team in reviewing trade partners' proposals, schedules, and logistics.
• Manage the installation of electrical, HVAC, automation, plumbing, process piping, low voltage systems, fire/life safety, and fire protection systems (validated and non-validated).
• Participate in the review of MEP-related shop drawings and submittals.
• Assist in developing full commissioning plans for all MEP systems, including test requirements, inspections, factory start-up, factory acceptance testing, documentation requirements, and integrated test plans.
• Provide onsite construction support for MEP systems and oversee start-up, balancing, commissioning, validation certification, owner training, and project closeout.
• Develop and oversee project-specific MEP quality and safety programs, including participating in safety cause mapping for post-MEP safety events.
• Create construction schedules, perform regular updates, monitor logic relationships, and insert new activities and impacts.
• Coordinate jobsite logistics and maintain relationships with neighboring occupants.
• Negotiate with authorities having jurisdiction to achieve project occupancy milestones.
• Lead RO’s "Safety Starts with Me" program.
• Coordinate subcontractor work scopes, scheduling, and resource-loading in conjunction with RO’s self-perform work crews.
• Foster the development of foremen to grow into future superintendents.
• Professionally represent RO field operations as the primary interface with the owner and design team.
• Train and develop MEP Coordinators and supervise them at the project level.
• Coordinate with other MEP Superintendents.
