About the role
Structure Tone, part of the STO Building Group, is seeking an MEP Estimator to support projects in Poughkeepsie, NY. The MEP Estimator will develop, create, and prepare MEP cost estimates during early project stages and provide ongoing cost support throughout the pre-construction phase.
Responsibilities
- Review plans and MEP drawings.
- Prepare quantity take-offs on assigned projects.
- Ensure complete review of plans and drawings; identify omitted items and account for them in the estimate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Solicit subcontractor bids for projects totaling $50–$150 million annually.
- Obtain 3–5 bids for each trade and supplier group.
- Review and analyze bids for conformance to specifications, price, material quality, insurance, wages, and related items.
- Discuss and resolve questions with subcontractors.
- Follow approved estimating practices and ensure financial objectives are met.
- Maintain current knowledge of construction codes and trends.
- Use appropriate software to calculate, record, and track estimates.
- Attend client meetings, answer pricing questions, and resolve estimate-related issues to ensure client satisfaction.
- Perform change order pricing, site visits, bid delivery, and team collaboration on specific bids.
- Determine material and labor requirements; prepare itemized lists and cost estimates for planning, organizing, scheduling, bidding, vendor selection, and cost-effectiveness analysis.
- Conduct special studies to establish standard hour and cost data or identify cost reductions.
- Consult with clients, vendors, and stakeholders to formulate estimates and resolve issues; obtain support and commitment to cost estimates.
- Organize and manage a centralized cost estimating database and formal estimating processes.
- Analyze completed projects to compare estimated vs. actual costs; recommend improvements to reduce future discrepancies.
- Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; preferred areas of study include construction, management, engineering, or architecture.
- 7+ years of experience in estimating, construction engineering, project engineering, or related roles in general contractor estimating and purchasing.
- Strong electrical focus preferred.
- Preferred experience with Data Center, Mission Critical, or Corporate Interiors projects.
- Demonstrates honesty, accountability, and reliability.
Pay
$150,000 – $200,000+
