MEP/CX- PROJECT ENGINEER The primary role of the MEP Project Engineer is to provide technical and project coordination support for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and specialty building systems throughout all phases of construction. Working under the direction of the MEP Project Manager, this position supports project planning, design coordination, procurement, field execution, commissioning, and project closeout activities to help ensure successful project delivery. The MEP Project Engineer serves as an integral member of the project team by coordinating information between owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel. This role develops technical knowledge of engineered building systems while contributing to safe, high-quality, and profitable project execution. The MEP Project Engineer is expected to demonstrate initiative, continuously expand technical knowledge, communicate effectively with multiple levels of the organization, and build strong relationships with project stakeholders while supporting McGough's commitment to operational excellence and exceptional customer service. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 0–3 years of experience in commercial construction, engineering, facility operations, or related industry. Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building controls systems. Preferred Internship or co-op experience supporting commercial or industrial construction projects. Experience using Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, REVIT, or AutoCAD. Exposure to BIM coordination. OSHA 10 certification. Experience supporting healthcare, advanced manufacturing, mission critical, industrial, or commercial construction projects. Skills Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications. Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applicationsKnowledge of engineered building systems Construction document review Blueprint and specification interpretation Technical problem solving Organization and time management Written and verbal communication Coordination across multiple disciplines Microsoft Office Suite Construction technology software Customer service Continuous learning mindset OFFICE AND TRAVEL Regular travel to project jobsites is required.Travel requirements will vary depending on project assignment and may include overnight travel.Ability to work from both office and construction site environments.This is a traveling position and may support multiple locations or project sites as assigned. Responsibilities And Tasks Pre-Construction Phase Technical Expertise Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to become familiar with project scope and owner requirements.Check A/E documents for compliance with owner requirements, applicable codes, constructability, industry standard practice, and optimization.Participate in design review meetings and page turns with clients and the A/E team.Assist with constructability reviews and interdisciplinary coordination.Assist the A/E and subcontractors to identify value engineering and cost reduction opportunities.Assist in identifying scope gaps and coordination conflicts.Support development of bid packages, bid instructions, and subcontractor scope documents to avoid gaps in subcontractor scopes.Assist with quantity takeoffs and estimating activities as assigned.Assist in evaluating subcontractor cost proposals and qualifications.Help identify long-lead equipment requiring early procurement.Support value engineering and cost-saving initiatives. Construction Phase Technical Expertise Support Project Managers with day-to-day coordination of MEP subcontractors.Assist Project Managers and subcontractors in interpreting contract documents.Review shop drawings, submittals, substitution requests, and change orders for completeness prior to routing for approval.Assist with preparation, tracking, and resolution of Requests for Information (RFIs).Monitor procurement status, equipment deliveries, and installation schedules.Review the project schedule and provide feedback to the Project Manager as needed.Participate in coordination meetings and document meeting minutes and action items.Conduct field observations to verify installation progress and identify coordination issues.Track completion of critical system installations and project milestones, and maintain project documentation.Assist with change management documentation.Monitor installation quality and report deficiencies to project leadership.Promote safe work practices and support project safety initiatives.Coordinate with field supervision and equipment vendors to resolve routine construction issues and support installation, startup, and commissioning work. Start-Up & Close Out Technical Expertise Support development and execution of commissioning plans. Coordinate startup activities with subcontractors and equipment vendors. Assist with functional testing of building systems. Track completion of punch list items. Review operation and maintenance manuals for completeness. Assist with collection of warranties and closeout documentation. Support owner training activities. Participate in project turnover meetings. Other Operational Areas Maintain current knowledge of building systems and emerging technologies. Participate in company technical training programs. Support implementation of company engineering standards and best practices. Assist with documenting lessons learned. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives. Build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Maintain and pursue knowledge of current and developing technologies, review industry performance, analyze industry trends, and maintain industry contacts. Professional Development Demonstrate initiative in developing technical and construction management knowledge. Seek mentorship from Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and Project Executives. Participate in internal training and professional development opportunities. Pursue applicable industry certifications. Develop understanding of project financial management and operational processes. Expand knowledge of McGough project delivery practices and quality standards. Other Duties As Assigned Participate as an active member of the Engineering Services Team. Collaborate with Operations, Preconstruction, Safety, VDC, and Business Development teams to support project success. Support company initiatives that improve quality, safety, innovation, and operational excellence. Perform other duties as assigned.
