About the role

Bradford Construction has an opening for an MEP Commissioning (Cx) Engineer / Architect / Design Reviewer to support renovation and new construction projects for a New York City public agency client. This role oversees the commissioning of MEP systems (mechanical, electrical, emergency power, renewable, etc.), ensuring alignment with design intent, code requirements, and overall system performance. The position is based onsite at the client's office in Long Island City, Queens, with eligibility for hybrid work after 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the commissioning process for MEP systems across design, construction, start-up, and post-occupancy phases.
  • Assign work to commissioning consultants and review proposals for MEP commissioning services during design and construction phases to ensure scope alignment, technical adequacy, and compliance with client standards; oversee consultant payment request processing.
  • Assist the supervisor in managing consultants engaged in MEP commissioning design reviews, construction phase oversight, and project closeout activities.
  • Review and update construction checklists (pre-functional checks) for all equipment and systems to be commissioned, ensuring alignment with contract specifications, client design standards, applicable codes, and project-specific performance criteria. Alternatively, review this documentation when prepared by third-party consultants.
  • Review and update functional performance test procedures for all commissioned systems to verify proper installation, system integration, sequence of operations, and performance under all modes of operation. Alternatively, review these procedures when developed by third-party consultants.
  • Support project commissioning closeout activities by coordinating with commissioning consultants, client's internal departments, consultants, and contractors, including organizing and leading recurring borough and project-specific meetings.
  • Review renovation and new construction design:
    • Review scope documents and design submissions at key design milestones using the Bluebeam platform and established review protocols.
    • Evaluate drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with client design standards, project-specific scope requirements, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements, while verifying or enhancing overall design quality.
    • Identify commissioning-related issues, design gaps, constructability concerns, and potential code compliance issues early in the design process and document findings with clear, written review comments.
    • Participate in project progress meetings and design review/QC meetings to facilitate discussion and resolution of identified issues.
  • Contribute to special programs and regulatory research:
    • Assist internal divisions in reviewing Local Laws, energy codes, and regulatory updates to assess impacts on existing client standards and commissioning requirements.
    • Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of new or updated design standards, commissioning guidelines, and technical requirements.
    • Provide technical recommendations to enhance energy efficiency, system reliability, maintainability, and long-term operational performance across facilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of MEP commissioning experience (design review, pre-functional and functional test procedures, construction phase oversight).
  • Strong knowledge of energy codes, LEED standards, and industry standards/protocols for commissioning.
  • NY-licensed Professional Engineer or Registered Architect preferred.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

Pay

$115,000 USD - $135,000 USD
