About the role

The MEP Assistant Project Manager contributes and supports specific mechanical, electrical, and systems needs of complex project types in Advanced Technology, Life Sciences, and Manufacturing core markets. This role supports Project Managers in planning, managing, and completing projects while ensuring financial success. It involves managing day-to-day project activities, resolving issues promptly, and collaborating with the project team to keep work on schedule, within budget, and aligned with contract requirements. The position oversees all trade partners for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Low Voltage Systems, and equipment vendors from procurement to final commissioning. This is a traveling position with the initial assignment based in Greenville, SC.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day project activities under the supervision of the Project Manager.
  • Lead and manage coordination of complex MEP systems throughout design, BIM coordination, submittal, and construction.
  • Perform QA/QC on MEP scopes to ensure compliance with client expectations and contract documents.
  • Demonstrate understanding of low voltage systems such as BMS, EPMS, SCADA, Fire Alarm, Security, and Telecom.
  • Prepare invoices, estimates, schedule meetings, and perform other administrative tasks.
  • Track and report on project progress specific to MEP installations.
  • Assist in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly reports detailing project status.
  • Solicit and obtain bids from subcontractors and material suppliers.
  • Support prompt processing of invoices and payments to subcontractors.
  • Assist in preparing change proposals, negotiating and executing change orders, and revising the master cost breakdown.
  • Support the Project Manager and Superintendent in supervising and managing field activities.
  • Communicate delays and issues to the Owner as needed.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the Owner, Architect, Engineers, Subcontractors, and Suppliers.
  • Assist with job start-up and close-out checklists.
  • May be assigned to work on-site at project locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, or Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in the commercial construction industry; 3-5+ years preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Self-starter with a high degree of personal responsibility and integrity.
  • Ability to work in a field construction environment, including walking on rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel long distances depending on project location.
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours per week, including weekends.
  • Detail-oriented.
