About the role

Shriners Children’s Chicago is seeking a full-time Mentored Scientist to join the Shriners Clinical Research team. This is a three-year grant-funded position focused on pediatric orthopedic, bone, joint, spine, scoliosis, plastic surgery, cleft lip and palate, comprehensive rehabilitation, and spinal cord injury research.

Responsibilities

• In collaboration with the PI, assist in designing experiments.
• Assist in the development of experimental protocols and techniques.
• Develop appropriate hypotheses and methodologies for the research.
• Assist with the education and supervision of surgical residents and other laboratory personnel.
• Develop skills to obtain third-party funding for research initiatives (i.e., NIH).
• Assist with data management and development of data for presentation and publication.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Doctorate in a related field required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of data collection and analysis, transgenic animal management, statistics, cellular and molecular biology, and computer programs (spreadsheets, graphics programs, word processing).
• Ability to communicate effectively in public, collaborate with investigators, direct and supervise laboratory personnel, analyze and manage program budgets, and assist in grant writing.
• Assist with planning new laboratory operations and long-range development.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of research experience preferred.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $84,676 – $127,014. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
