The Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country, with a diverse service area of 13 counties and more than 7 million people. We address issues that cross city limits and county lines every single day, including childcare quality, senior safety and well-being, job connections, disaster recovery, water quality, and more. Responsibilities

  • Complete the Texas Rising Star Assessment Training and Certification Program (ATCP).
  • Build supportive and professional relationships with early learning providers (ELPs).
  • Assist ELPs with achieving initial Texas Rising Star certification.
  • Assist ELPs in obtaining, maintaining, or achieving higher star levels of certification.
  • Develop and maintain effective and timely written and oral communications with all administrators and teachers.
  • Provide PLCs and/or training opportunities for childcare participants.
  • Provide learning resources to interested ELPs who are interested in Texas Rising Star.
  • Create continuous quality improvement plans (CQIPs) for Entry Level Designated (ELDs) and Texas Rising Star (TRS) programs.
  • Provide mentoring support (co-teaching, modeling, side-by-side, instructional planning, etc.) to early learning providers.
  • Participate in required, ongoing coaching Professional Learning Community (PLC’s) for professional development.
  • Submit coaching samples to earn badges in specific coaching behavior, leading to a coaching certification.
  • Complete and process forms and documents using required policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Meet the minimum qualifications for Texas Rising Star staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and present strategies leading to successful deliverables and outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites and SharePoint.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, child psychology, educational psychology, elementary education, or family consumer science and one year of full-time early childhood classroom experience in a childcare, Early Head Start, Head Start, or pre-K through third-grade school program; OR
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with at least 18 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, child psychology, educational psychology, elementary education, or family consumer science (with at least 12 credit hours in child development) and one year of full-time early childhood classroom experience in a childcare, Early Head Start, Head Start, or pre-K through third-grade school program; OR
  • Associate degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, child psychology, educational psychology, elementary education, or family consumer science and two years of suitable experience in early childhood education as a classroom teacher, curriculum coordinator, or director.

All employees must reside within the agency’s 13-county service region.
