Mental Health Therapists

Position Summary

Provide overall management of youth’s treatment through active engagement, clinical assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. Therapist will provide clinical insight and work from a trauma informed lens to enhance the milieu and programming. Engage with families through family therapy and treatment planning. Collaborate with the community and providers related to the youth’s progress and discharge planning.

Primary responsibilities

• Trauma Informed Care
  • Create and drive a trauma-informed environment; establish and maintain a positive treatment culture and make necessary changes to ensure success.
  • Collaborate with youth and family to lead and develop the Nexus Individual and Family Guidance Plans; ensure staff understand and utilize them in adherence to policy.
  • Engage in and have active involvement of the Family Collaborative Intake meetings.
  • Complete Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths functional assessment in accordance to the TCOM (collaborative) principals.
  • Develop and monitor individual treatment plans through collaborative efforts with family, youth, and providers.
  • Provide individualized, youth-focused, strength and evidence-based family and individual therapy models such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory clinical supervision and team case consultation meetings in accordance with program expectations.
• Milieu Coordination
  • Develop and facilitate milieu and treatment groups that are trauma-informed, educational, and treatment focused.
  • Participate in all youth-related treatment team meetings, using family-centered language and youth-driven principles.
  • Serve as a clinical treatment team leader for YCP's, including modeling and coaching staff on rapport-building, trauma-informed practices, and de-escalation techniques on the treatment milieu as needed.
  • Be available on-call for consultation/treatment direction and/or decisions when appropriate.
  • Assess readiness for discharge in conjunction with the treatment team. Coordinate and recommend therapeutic services for success after discharge.
• Community Care
  • Coordinate/communicate aftercare needs of the client with family and all necessary social service and community providers to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Communicate with the treatment team to include all desired and necessary family members, educational, legal, community, and social service providers (as well as all-natural supports that the youth and family identify) to gather all necessary information to inform and support the treatment process.
  • Ensure all required client reports, records, and all documentation are produced accurately and maintained in a consistent, timely, and professional manner according to policy and regulated statutes.
  • Educate and facilitate trainings for staff on trauma-informed practices, clinical diagnosis treatment processes, and other clinically relevant training material.
  • Participate in team meetings, program clinical team meetings, therapy clinical supervision sessions, and in-services as required.
  • Ensure confidentiality regarding mental health, medical issues, background treatment, and comply with all HIPAA related requirements.

Required Education and Licensure

• Master’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences, human services, social work, marriage & family therapy, psychology, counseling, or clinically related fields
• If currently unlicensed and clinical licensure is required in your state: Must be on track to complete licensure for a specific, related discipline
• And/or currently holds a provisional/intermediary license for a specific track (i.e. LGSW, LMSW, LAMFT or LPC)
• Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Nexus Home Office driving requirements
• Must successfully pass a CJIS background check
• Successfully participate and complete a Safety Crisis Management exam and training

Preferred Education and Experience

• Fully licensed in appropriate state as an LCSW, LICSW, LP, LMFT, LPCC, or LCPC, LCSW-C
• In Illinois: LSOTP licensure
• Related residential or human services experience working with youth and families

Therapist Leveling

• Therapist I: Unlicensed, Intermediary, Practice License level. Minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, human services or related fields (i.e. Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy). If state requires, must be on track for full clinical licensure for a specific, related discipline and/or currently hold a provisional/intermediary license for a specific track.
• Therapist II: Fully Independently Licensed level. Master’s degree and State-specific required licensure.
