About the role

The Intensive Outpatient Clinic (IOC) is looking for a therapist to join a close-knit, interdisciplinary team. We provide insurance-covered, wraparound care for adults whose mental health needs intersect with medical, substance-use, and social challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual psychotherapy using evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed care.
  • Complete comprehensive behavioral health, suicide-risk, and safety assessments.
  • Manage an ongoing outpatient therapy caseload.
  • Provide crisis intervention and same-day behavioral health evaluations, as clinically appropriate.
  • Partner closely with physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, pharmacists, medical assistants, and care coordinators.
  • Participate in regular interdisciplinary huddles, treatment planning, and case consultation.
  • Develop collaborative treatment plans and document care in the electronic health record.
  • Support transitions following emergency department visits and psychiatric hospitalizations.
  • Help patients build coping skills, emotional regulation, independence, and confidence using care in ways that fit their goals and needs.
  • Cookordination with community resources when clinically indicated, while maintaining psychotherapy as the central focus of the role.
  • Use defined clinical outcomes and patient feedback to guide care and contribute to ongoing improvement of the IOC care model.

Requirements

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • One of the following: Current Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.) certificate for clinical practice in the State of Utah, current license to practice as a Certified Social Worker in the State of Utah.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Art Therapy, or another related behavioral health field.
  • Experience providing individual psychotherapy to adults.
  • Experience assessing behavioral health risk, developing safety plans, and responding effectively to clinical crises.
  • Experience in integrated primary care, collaborative care, or interdisciplinary behavioral health settings.
  • Experience in community mental health, hospital-based care, crisis stabilization, or other high-acuity outpatient settings.
  • Experience in CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, or trauma-informed care.
  • Experience working with adults with complex mental health needs, including trauma-related conditions, substance-use disorders, mood disorders, and personality-related challenges.
  • Experience serving undeserved or medically complex populations.
  • Interest in using clinical outcomes to guide treatment and improve care delivery.

  • Ability to work with high-acuity patients while maintaining clear, therapeutic boundaries.
  • Comfort making thoughtful clinical decisions in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to balance independent clinical work with active participation on a care team.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and evidence-based practice.
  • Comfort using the electronic health record and clinical outcome measures to support care.
